New Book Review in Afkar/Ideas of Migrations in the Mediterranean

12.06.2024

A new Book Review authored by Ainara Huarte Aranda, EuroMedMig coordinator, of Migrations in the Mediterraean, co-edited by Ricard Zapata-Barrero (GRITIM-UPF) and Ibrahim Awad (American University in Cairo), has just been published in the magazine Afkar/Ideas, co-edited by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and Política Exterior.

In her review, Huarte describes the volume as “an ambitious body of knowledge based on a commitment to contribute, through rigorous data, to the academic, political and social debate on migration in the Mediterranean, and to do so from a multidisciplinary, multiscale and postcolonial perspective that stands back from the Eurocentric prism.”

She also highlights that Migrations in the Mediterranean contributed to the decentralisation of knowledge production, both geographically and in terms of scale, but also in terms of time, as special attention is devoted to understanding migration in the Mediterranean from a historical perspective.

The book review is available both in its French and Spanish version:
