MUIÑOS, FERRAN

Coordinator of Elements of Mathematics

In 2011 I got a PhD in Mathematics by Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Before I finished my PhD, I joined the private sector as a professional bid writer, where I continued to work until 2015. As a writer I collaborated with several research teams in areas related to agricultural biology and health sciences. The field of biology and genomics turned out to be a good match to fit my motivation and background, so I committed to the new goal of becoming a researcher in the field. In 2017 I got a MSc in Bioinformatics for Health Sciences by Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).

Then I joined the Biomedical Genomics Lab led by Prof. Núria López-Bigas, where I am currently working as a post-doc at IRB Barcelona. So far I have contributed to several research lines of the group (see Publications). I have also supervised 2 graduate-level students and being involved in public-awareness of science activities.

So far I have cultivated a practical and theoretical interest towards different statistical learning approaches to data analysis at large. I am a Pythonista, but I also like the purely functional taste of Haskell.

Research Lines:

My latest research focus in a few sentences: computational methods to model mutational heterogeneity and positive selection in somatic tissues; mutational signature analysis; positional determinants of mutational heterogeneity, DNA damage and repair.
