Description

The “Industrial Doctorate” mention is an honourable grade awarded as part of the doctoral degree.

The “Industrial Doctor” mention can be included on front of the doctoral certificate, under the following circumstances:

a) If there is an employment or commercial contract with the doctoral student. The contract may be with a company from the private sector or with a public body.

b) The doctoral student must be participating in an industrial research or experimental development project being conducted at the company or public body where the student is providing their services, which cannot be a university. The industrial research or experimental development project the doctoral student is participating in must be directly related to the thesis they are undertaking. This direct relation will be accredited through a report to be endorsed by the University.

c) In the event that the industrial research or experimental development project is being undertaken as a collaboration between the University and the company or public body where the doctoral student is providing their services, a framework collaboration agreement must be drawn up and signed by the parties. This agreement must outline the obligations of the University and the obligations of the company or public body, as well as the selection procedure for doctoral students.

The doctoral student must have a thesis tutor designated by the University and someone responsible for the student designated by the company or public body, who may also be the thesis supervisor, in accordance with the specific regulations for the doctorate.

NOTE: In Catalonia, and since 2013, we have the Industrial Doctorates Plan. This is a call for grants run by the Catalan government in collaboration with public and private universities.

For more information go to the Industrial Doctorates Plan. If you are interested in registering for it, you can see the available projects and present your candidacy to any projects of interest and which match your profile.
